It has become apparent that I had to change the name of yesterday's 'incident' from the 'Muffin Failure' to total and complete 'Baking Massacre'. The muffins were just the first straw. It took three batches to get something edible and presentable. The cupcakes, on the other hand, could not be saved. The doctor tried everything. I mourned their loss until 9am this morning. Then I drove to Whole Foods and bought cupcakes for Oliver's Valentine's Day party.
Due to these tragic circumstances, I am finding it necessary to swear off baking forever. That's right...never again will I preheat my oven, carefully mix ingredients, and wait for a delectable treat to emerge warm and delicious. Never again. For the next two weeks. At least.

Say it isn't so! That would be a tragic loss for the baking community and its' partakers!
Oh my! What went so terribly wrong?!?!?!? (although i must admit I am secretly happy that the pros even have bad days. your bad day is still my good baking day!!) And don't quit. I love ALL your food too much!!!!!!!!!!!
what??!! crazy. I made a cake for Zach and cupcakes for Ben and they both turned out perfectly (I used box mixes this time!) Sorry for your losses. it is tragic really. I feel your pain. reminds me of the time I tried to make the stand up rainbow fish cake for Ben's first birthday. never again will I make a stand up cake. truly, never.
ditto with cyd. bring over the failures, i'm sure they still taste yum
It because of pregnancy, I'm telling ya--I can once in awhile manage to a batch of cookies to turn out. But dinner is the real disaster.
Hope it gets better soon!
